Signs

Signs

A Poem by srz92
"

People can be difficult to understand; sometimes the people that you want to build the closest relationships with can be the ones that leave you scratching your head the most

"

People like to walk sometimes

Maybe even the occasional aimless wandering

And if someone’s feeling a tad silly - perhaps a waddle might suffice

Every day, as we walk, wander and waddle throughout, around, and our lives, we encounter some signs; signs that tell us where to go, and how to conduct:

Stop! Go! Deer crossing! Slow moving traffic! One way street!!!

And there’s only one way that I ever walk down this street called “You Boulevard”,

And that’s me, plodding 30 km under the speed limit of sanity!

Because when I mosey on over to the intersection of “Casual Street” and “Undetermined Lane”

I see all the signs pointing me in the right way to “You Boulevard”

But once I step foot on this seemingly and inviting street

Where’d all the signs go?

Where’s the direction?

How do I proceed?

I think I see a sign up in the distance

Yup, there’s one! It says, “Turn left for ambiguity”

Hmm...well maybe if I just keep walki-

Oh wait there! What’s that one say? “Proceed to frustration”?

Well that doesn’t sound so nice

Oh! I see it! The end of the street! This must be it!

“Dead end, to continue on ‘You’ Boulevartd, hike around ‘Past Love Ravine’”

Damn!!! That’s one large, complex, scary lookin’ valley!

Why did I walk down this street called “You” again?

I thought we were taking a walk down this street called “You”; isn’t that what you said?

A walk...a pleasant meandering, probably a little bit of conversing - at least that’s how you described it when we made the date for our walk

And now I’m all alone on this street called “You”,

And I’m standing still

And there’s nobody to talk to

“So how is this really a walk?” is my question

I’m here ready!

My shoes are laced up!

All my appointments are cleared!

I’ve even got a bag full of snacks in case we get hungry!

But for some reason, these signs posted on this street called “You” are making it pretty hard to figure out how we’re going to walk

So I think I”ll mosey on away from this street called “You”

I think I’ll take a walk on a different street - lots of nice streets around here

Hell, maybe I”ll even find a nice, pretty street where I can read the signs
