The Nadir

The Nadir

A Poem by Shekhar Srinivasan

Arose from the roots of brotherhood,
To carve a future for ourselves,
Buried in the chaff of avarice,
Threw kindness up on shelves,

Impaired by the spirits of fame,
Eclipsed by the veil of illusion,
Ravaged by a rush for victory,
Treading the path of collusion,

Trembling at the tremors of failure,
Yet, unmoved by a gush of deceit,
Hatching a scheme of perfidy,
Lynched friendship in conceit,

Juddered by the mirrors of the past,
Crushed by the agony of guilt,
Purging the maggots of envy,
Saving the bud from a wilt.
