astronaute

astronaute

A Poem by Alice Luanne Sutcliffe

it's been twelve months
and you're still lightyears away
seconds and minutes are eternities
but that's more than i can say
for the hours tangled up in cages
and forced into sleepless suicide

it's been twelve days
and you're still never coming home
i watched sixteen stars exploding
caught the tears
that fell from god's eyes
and kept them in seventeen glass jars

it's been twelve minutes
and there's still so much of sober
liquer and lemonade taste the same
when everything is whole
and nothing is broken

it's been twelve seconds
and the moon has stopped smiling
i know you are an astronaut
but i'm so scared of space
because there's so much of it
and so little left of me
