I Crafted the Orb

I Crafted the Orb

A Poem by Ron Hogan
"

free verse.

"
I crafted the orb
to great perfection.
I spent many hours
on this thing--
though upon seeing it,
the other gods grew jealous.
Quickly they grabbed my masterpiece,
giggling as they thought aloud
of ways to "improve" it.
At length they brought it back--
it was dented with valleys and oceans,
marred with plateaus and mountains.
Life grew, decayed, and fed upon itself.
"What do you think of it?"
one of them asked me.
I retorted,
"It is ugly."

A little bit of Masters, a little Stephen Crane--well, maybe a lot of Crane. Tight metaphor, tightly constructed. Very strong and well-built piece of writing.

Wow, I really like this.
The ending is -perfect-.
I don't really know what I think of it just yet, as to meaning, but I'm lacking sleep XD I'll give it a read-over though after I've been to bed~
It has a great feel to it though, if you know what I mean. =]

Another of these damned biographies that people demand of me, as if knowing any of the numerous insignificant details of the stains left on-- I don't know where I was going with that. Trying to sound .. more..
