blank is the sea (ankles deep)

blank is the sea (ankles deep)

A Poem by Daisy Ackerman

im rational enough to know

that the water near the shore

is shallow

im standing in it ankles deep

and i can back out whenever i want

whats in the water but sand

and seaweed and fish

and beauty

?

i am made of air

and only graze the surface of the sea

clarity is my essence

so clear im invisible

the water holds secrets

to imagine

Warning: do not touch

Sharks in the Water

pick the flowers do not pet the fish

the ocean isnt still

but it is still

green in the light

and blue in the mind

flashes of silver taunt and

i would do anything

to be unafraid

i am air

and irrational enough to hope

the sea will reach up to me

but it wont

so i stay in the same spot

ankles deep in the water near the shore

for hours

for days

for months

for years.

There is a sense of irreverence in your writing Daisy that I enjoy. Your writing is fearless in standing outside of life and recording your observations in your work. Keep on keeping on :)
