The Night They Came

The Night They Came

A Poem by sweetspicedgherkins

The night they came
The wind whistled through the trees
As the dark shadows approached
A young girl watches
Paralysed by fear
Her window shakes as fingernails scratch
They whisper her name over and over
Like a soft gentle taunt
Her screams are silenced
Her breath shallowed
The demons call for her
But she is barely eight
They follow her round
Watch through her window
She ignores their calls again and again
Her time is up
They need her now
A message gets sent
A bloody beheaded body
Taped to her window
A knife, it’s pattern so pretty you can’t resist
Lays on the grass catching the sun
The little girl cries out
But no one can see
The demons that were calling out
The damage that was done
She’s all alone
Following their call
Lured into their trap
Her mind tortured for years
A twisted fate and a little girl lost
For the night the demons came
The innocence of childhood would never return

spooky ... when innocence dies and a child's life scared for life .. so tragic .. your poem, for me, is balanced on the edge of a horror story to be taken as pure fiction but the reality of a child's nightmare occurring repeatedly is very real .. i can not help but think of "Uncle Fred" of "Daddy" or ..... making these nighttime "visits" .. the very real horror and scaring of abuse so disgustingly real ... your poem drew me in and held me ... thanks for sharing!
