Christmas B.C.

Christmas B.C.

As harvests sorrow sweeps the land

Life recedes at the reapers hand

An icy touch brings winter sands

The earth in slumber hibernates

Light encumbered for those that wake

As harvests sorrow sweeps the land

Adam’s and Eve’s spurn frozen fields

Wrapped in skins of ever-yield

An icy touch brings winter sands

The landscape shiver’s pearly white

A barren sight against the night

As harvests sorrow sweeps the land

Grim eyes stare to forage and seek

To add to horded tricks and treats

An icy touch brings winters sands

In huts and caves and houses of stone

All crave the warmth and solace of home

As harvests sorrow sweeps the land

An icy touch brings winter sands

So would "Christmas A.D." have a more hopeful spin? Like the last line repetition.

Very nice Spence. As I was reading it I was reminded a bit of the style of Robert Frost, which is about as high a compliment as one can pay to a poet I think. Lovely poem.
