Achieving Immortality

Achieving Immortality

A Poem by spence

Thoughts, ideas and actions never truly die
They grow- they combine
Intertwine
They change- Transmogrify
To become the sum of all and more
Than they ever were before
Changing with the climate
Turning with the tide
External components
Internalised
In the hearts and minds of others
Always alive
That which can’t assimilate
To history consigned
Those that supposed
A ‘One True Way’ might then say
‘No thing is forever’
‘It is just a passing phase’
Fixed ideals lose awareness
Grow old and grey- much like their bearers
Stubbornly stuck in sanctified ways
Turning to dust and fading away
So reach out and share to understand
Be ever aware of the future’s plan
The more you mix in the more you create
And much more will grow in the cross-pollinate
Acting and thinking- free of constraints
Expressing this freedom with open debate
Honour and value for all things that live
Ego recedes as the YOU learns to give
And realise there’s more than personal need
The avoidance of want has amounted to greed
YOU distracted- impacted on all those around
Nothing was clear- no answers were found
To questions you asked of the ‘what’, ‘where’ and ‘why’?
In rejection you found yourself praying you’d die
But life still moved on- though you wished it would end
The standard of living a life that’s pretend
Possessions, obsessions- the theory of proof
Recession, depression- obstructed the truth
Seeds cannot nurture if they are not sown
Give life to children: then watch how they grow
In all of creation, by luck or by deed,
Nothing survives if it cannot feed
Be it food for the body or food for the soul
It is food for the mind to strive for the goal
To benefit others, by choice- not through stealth
Resources uncovered: an abundance of wealth
Controlled by the few so resistant to change
Ruthless and selfish- they won’t turn the page
Suppressing ideas, action and thought
Ensuring that only their lessons are taught
But their time is to end- maintained so with lies
They held us all up and so many have died
Before they’d the chance to grow and create
In the evolutionary cycle we perpetuate
Where the essence of WE never truly dies
We grow- we combine
Intertwine
We change- Transmogrify
To become the sum of all and more
Than we ever were before
Changing with the climate
Turning with the tide
External components
Internalised
In the hearts and minds of others
Always alive

I'll try not to write a review that reads like and easy you'd write for school.

First of thank you for entering this in my competition!

More importantly thank you for writing such a measured and powerful piece.
In all honestly it's a lesson for the reader, perhaps even a beacon of hope for those who don't know whatr role they're playing in life.

I really enjoyed this from start to finish, more importantly I feel inspired by it, I love the way in which you use couplets but the piece doesn't feel like you have forced yourself to search the thesaurus for words that you could get to rhyme together, in fact this almost reads like a prayer or a mantra that you might recite each night before falling asleep.

Brilliant read

wow. deep and thought provoking, as usual. I for one never want to stagnate....how utterly boring is never changing!
