Casablanca Trade OffA Poem by spenceHumphrey Bogart on Fair Trade
It’s no good trying to be noble
It doesn’t take much to see that the problems of these little people don’t amount to more than a hill of coffee beans In this crazy, fucked up world... Of Fair Trade/Slave Labour Offshore sweat shops and plantations In the underdeveloped, ‘post’ colonial nations Corporate growth that Empire yields The commandeering of global commodities And the conquest of the oil fields Still trying to be noble? FIEND! You can pay more to show that you care So that the peasant populations of Here- There- Everywhere Get a little bit more of the smallest of shares This is how Big Business plays fair Branded, labelled, so that you’ll know People were paid for the crops that they grow Clear conscience Ethical consumption Consummation Still f*****g the world (Although the honeymoon is well and truly over) Over and over Again and again High street prices rocket- the C.E.O’s still up their profit The turnover will not, cannot, be lost Workers of the world are united in paying the corporate cost They’ve got a job to do Where they’re going no one can follow What they’ve got to do, you can’t be any part of. But if you’re good at being noble You will see that the problems of these little people don’t amount to more than a hill of cacao beans in this crazy fucked up world So speak no evil; hear no evil, see....................?
