Relying on Others is for Fools

Relying on Others is for Fools

A Poem by SpeedyHobbit Armstrong
"

The speaker berates themselves for letting down their guard, choosing to expose a weakness in hopes of bolstering, and thus opening themselves up to be further hurt by indifference.

"
Really, when will you learn?
Every time will be the same
Let's just think about this a moment
You thought they were different?
In this instance they seemed different? Caring? Compassionate?
Never heard THAT one before
Gee, and you wonder why you always get hurt?

Oh, but you tried to be there for them? Since when does that matter?
Naivete is certainly your forte.

Oh, but they said they'll always be there for you?
Too many times have you heard that.
How many times has someone followed through on their word?
Every time?
Really, try NEVER
So why do you still count on "friends"?

I do wonder when you'll learn
So, watch your own back. Look to your own vulnerabilities. Nobody else will.

Friends are fake. They like you only for some sort of gain.
Oh, and when you fall, nobody will help you up.
Remember that for once.

Fake friends are real friends. Or so they say
Oh, how kind and empathetic you try to be matters not.
Only trust and depend on yourself.
Let this pain be a lesson
Showing you that cold hard truth

Hi. This is the kind of rant made AFTER being staked-out and burnt (with the hilt of the serrated hunting knife's blade still protruding from your back). You did seem to hit on all the common elements and in a logical order. Even a lesson-learned at the end.

It doesn't say a lot for the accepted state of society today. Damn.

Very nice, and the truth and feeling in it came out very well too. I love exploring through your old writing, you have some awesome stuff, Cher! :)

This stands unfortunately true, relying on others often leads to being let down,
old saying, if you want it done right, do it yourself. Thanks for sharing, b-blessed, PTL!

A really piercing truthful rant. My only suggestion would be to look at formatting in a prose-paragraph form. If you don't like it, then nothing lost or gained either way.

An excellent acrostic, and some deep truth in this write, many people are exactly as you describe. There are also the rare few that disprove this theory, and those you keep close to you.

I must disgree with Chris, I see no rant but a preaching to those whom look into their own souls and lives. Marks of Henry the fifth. A truth and rant that has scares and wounds, of brutish emotion and the could ring more true as a Saint George.

Nice bit of prose here. Very straight forward and powerful. Thank you for sharing

This is a great platform to let it all out...I like the acrostic structure and passion. Had plenty of these "fake friends" in my lifetime. Done with that. Looking forward to reading more of your work.

I've been there many times unfortunately. A tiger never loses its stripes. 'Always depend on yourself' is a well known truth, and rightly so.
