It Came On a Day

i once saw a rainbow
it came on a day
where i never wanted to see anything
happy or joyous again.
 
i smiled that the promise that hung in the air
like a shooting star
carrying a wish through space and time.
 
the sadness i felt 
was gone and replaced but something new
nothing i expected to feel.
a quiet emotion
with loud tendencies
soothed me over.
like holding an infant.
 
I would hush him
only to hear his breath on my ear.
run my fingers down his chest
just to know hes real.
in a moment i am swept away.
