The Piper's Calliope

The Piper's Calliope

A Poem by speakingcolors
"

a song i wrote after spending hours researching the meaning behind beatles songs. i didn't intend to do research to write a song, but this is what happened. i'm not sure if i like the title yet.

"

In a vision hung above my bed

from the string of time,

I saw the only word of truth

between the pantomime.

And in this very pleasant place

found warmth of happiness,

I came to rest upon my feet

in the girl's caress.

Though she's not, not a girl

that I need go by,

I pay them all just the same

for next week's last supply.

I wonder how I've just begun

and why I hold her close,

'cause when I drink her red rose wine

it's her I hate the most.

Oh

Shoot, shoot

Bang, bang

Don't you know

you can't have peace and war?

It's a

Bang, bang

Shoot, shoot

bloody mess

hanging out the butcher's door.

Oh

Shoot, shoot

Bang, bang

Not too far

from the bottom of the sea

It's a

Bang, bang

Shoot, shoot

Merry time

on the piper's calliope

Now don't you know she's fooling me,

and flung me from the shore?

With every plastic kiss I stray

from the boy I was before.

But I've got my fix of shaded eyes

got to go back to the square

where everyone's your next ex-friend,

where everyone's a millionaire.

Oh

Shoot, shoot

Bang, bang

Don't you know

you can't have peace and war?

It's a

Bang, bang

Shoot, shoot

bloody mess

hanging out the butcher's door.

Oh

Shoot, shoot

Bang, bang

Not too far

from the bottom of the sea

It's a

Bang, bang

Shoot, shoot

Merry time

on the piper's calliope

Maybe we can turn around

maybe we can kill the clown

that tricked us yesterday.

Maybe we can steal his gun

and shoot him in his rubber tongue

and stop wearing this toupee

Oh

I found my favorite collared shirt

in Connecticut.

The missus starched me to the core

and taught me etiquette.

I combed my hair and brushed my teeth,

but it's gone 1, 2, 3, 4,

'cause the girl started playing that piper's tune

and I ran right out the door.

Oh

Shoot, shoot

Bang, bang

Don't you know

you can't have peace and war?

It's a

Bang, bang

Shoot, shoot

bloody mess

hanging out the butcher's door.

Oh

Shoot, shoot

Bang, bang

Not too far

from the bottom of the sea

It's a

Bang, bang

Shoot, shoot

Merry time

on the piper's calliope

Your use of onomatopoeia demonstrates a lot throughout this song, and I like the repetition that is almost always found in songs. Reading this in poem form gives the repetition new meaning as well, and it moves the piece along really well.

Your inspiration from The Beatles and your overall style and abilities in writing gave this song such abstract themes to follow, using things like a collared shirt and a clown with a runner toungue; really great and elaborate.

I rather like this one. :)
