A poem I wrote after my divorce from an abusive marriage.

Once upon a time in a far away land
There lived a girl with the world in her hand
She saw life for what it was
But life came into kill her buzz

Her mother was a lush who just couldn't cope
She filled her heart with hate and with dope
Her dad was a king in his own eyes
But he secretly sat on a throne of lies

Her nana was her heaven, her sun, and her moon
But that all ended with the sound of a boom
Her little world crush, her heart in pieces
Her soul felt weak and full of diseases

She tried to smile, no matter how hard it seemed
Sometimes she felt it was all just a dream
But no matter what she pushed and she pushed
Knowing it would be ok if she only just pushed

Monsters can come in the form of a lover
A brother, a sister, or the form of a mother
They don't hide in closets, or under the bed
Sometimes they lie deep in your head

Her mother was big, but her demons were bigger,
Her words were like daggers, it felt like pulled triggers
Then on Christmas after wishing for death,
Her mother drew her very last breath

Life was there but it seemed much harder
But that's what its like being an addict's daughter
Her heart was empty her soul even weaker
Her outlook was grim it seemed so much bleaker

School can be hard for kids like her
Teachers can play favorites to kids with worth
Kids can be cruel, kids can be mean
Kids can add fire to gasoline

They jeer and they jaunt
They laugh and they taunt
The words seep in your mind
And its there that they haunt

Then one day when life was alarming
She ran into a man named Sir Prince Charming
His hair was red, and his eyes were blue
Her legs were weak but her heart was new

She loved him hard
She loved him well
But that doesn't matter
When your living in hell

Love is strong
But hate is stronger
And it tore her prince away
She could love him no longer

See the father that lived on his imaginary throne
Had words of poison and a heart stone
He nashed his teeth, he reared his head
"You'll not have my daughter, you're better off dead"

So the girl did all she could do
She let him fly like good lovers do
With sorrow in her heart she said her goodbye
and then he was gone in the blink of an eye

Her heart was broken
Her soul was bare
But nobody listened
And nobody cared

As the years went on she tried to tried to replace
That beautiful man with a strangers face
She looked and she looked all over the land
To find someone like that perfect man

Tried as she could she burned and she fell
She wanted out of her personal hell
She had to get out to do what she could
So she married a man she thought that was good

But that man was a lion, and she was a deer
He burned her with fire he filled her with fear
He'd broken her trust as well as heart
Her hit with force like a poison dart

She finally got out she finally got free
But getting her heart back was harder than seemed
Because life's not as easy as it is in your dreams.

That girl is me, its time to be true
My heart is broken
I feel black and blue
I repent on my decision
Truly I do

I miss my heart and I miss my soul
I miss how it felt when it was a whole
I miss my prince charming I miss his smile
I still think of him every once in while
