The Things I Know

The Things I Know

A Poem by sparkly.ghost
"

A slightly nonsensical list of knowledge

"

Here are the things that I know:

  • Everybody is affected differently by everything

  • High school is a sucky place to make friends

  • Your perception of yourself is the only one you’ll ever truly know

  • My eyes are different than your eyes than their eyes

  • I have a lot of voices in my head

  • I am scared that I’m actually not pretending-- or that I actually am

  • EVERYTHING IS A F*****G PARADOX. OK?

  • I never have, and never will, know/n most of the people in this world

  • If you are reading this, something major happened in my life

  • I really hate the way I look

  • I also don’t like the way I act/my personality

  • It really depends on the cat or dog

  • I don’t f*****g know where things are going to lead or end up

  • I could die tomorrow

  • I could not die tomorrow

  • I want to be different, but also magical. Hmm? You get it?

  • I already am different… as proved by the fact that only I’m in my head

Ok… do you get it? I know a lot of things. No, really-- I do. My whole day is filled with thoughts and ideas and loud, screaming voices pounding out s**t in my head. It’s f*****g crazy, ok? So, that sounds a bit insane, and I realize that. Just let me assure you that if you met me, you’d most likely find me a normal, if not somewhat painfully shy, human girl.

Who am I?

WHAT. IT’S THE QUESTION. THE ONE THAT SEEMS TO TAKE OVER LIVES AND CREATE EXTREME PARANOIA AND UNNECESSARY SUFFERING. But seriously-- who am I? Because I have no f*****g clue. I also don’t know who any of you are-- and here’s a wild idea: maybe we’ll never know.

You are so right and not alone. So many things we know yet so many we don’t. Our perceptions of ourselves can differ if you ask another, the question of what lies ahead, who knows and if we knew could we change anything. I’ve read your poem several times and each time I pull out something that has me thinking, such as only so much is within my reach and control, there are people and places I may never see, and you’ve done something amazing with this poem, you’ve gotten the reader thinking.

About
Life is so mysterious and complex, yet I can't seem to give up on finding the answers to WHY. Through my writing, I guess, I'm able to let go of some of that uncertainty, and accept that everything is.. more..
