Sometimes

Sometimes

A Poem by Laura Sparkle

Sometimes I sit on the grass and look at you,

The perfect embodiment of all I cannot be

Yet all I wish I would if I had the choice

To leave all I know behind in a blink of a wet eye.

Sometimes I smile at you, with a different shade,

A subtle little hint behind the rosy lips of mine

That crack a joke at the crack of dawn, to myself at the sun

About the silliness of all boys in general, not yet men,

And all the men that are always the boys they once were.

Sometimes, the flame in my eyes is dim in the day,

And a smile on my face is all one should wish to add to this

“Martyr” of mine, this silly mind of mine cobwebbed and lost,

Lost and forgotten in some lonely gutter I once passed by

On my way to our usual lunch spot, my darling friend.

Sometimes, there’s a distant longing, a third heartbeat to the math,

A class or single step equation to allow me to remember

How I would like to feel your arms wrapped tightly

In a soft embrace, pulled tight against each other’s chest.

Sometimes, I have the silly visions, the night is blurry and the time is now,

We’ll never answer if we can’t hear it, if we don’t try, we’ll never know.

I’m done with hints, I’m sure you know… I like you…
