Lilly and Her SunA Story by FAnother very short short story that I wrote a couple of nights ago. Again in the style of children's stories. They are meant to be silly, childish, at the same time very serious, sometimes even cruel.Lilly saw the sun rising on the horizon. She was so happy to see the sun
again; the last nights had been quite cold and gloomy - not very nice weather
considering that it was mid-spring. She felt like she could sit there for ages.
When the sun rose so high that it was above her, Lilly couldn't resist to turn
her head up and to face the sun. It was so warm and energising! The day went by and Lilly tried to turn her head towards the sun as much
as she could, but at some point she wasn't able to anymore. Rose had told her
that she shouldn't turn her head too much or she would break her neck. But the
sun was so nice! At least she was still able to feel its warmth on every part
of her body except her feet - the sun would just not reach them. When the sun was at the opposite end of the horizon, Lilly already started
missing it. She knew that the moon would come soon, but its light was neither
bright nor warming. She needed the sun like she needed the air. If she ever had
to go without one of them, she felt like she would die. She just loved them too
much. After the sun had set, Lilly wanted to cry but she couldn't bring herself
to do it. Rose had told her not to be so dramatic; the sun would come back
every day until eternity, she had said. But there were still those nights, they
were dark and cold and they just weren't like the days. While others might
dream of the stars and think about what could be found in the rest of the
universe, Lilly just sat there, crouching as if a weight was sitting on her
head. Lilly wasn't able to sleep, so she just stared ahead of her and looked up
to the sky occasionally as if hoping that the sun would suddenly pop up on the
sky. She was really not good at being patient, even though Rose had told her
that it was very important to be patient. Only through patience we could really
bloom, she had said. Well, Rose isn't here anymore, Lilly thought. One day she
had suddenly disappeared. Lilly hadn't even noticed it, because she had been so
busy looking up to the sun, but she was sure that Rose was feeling well
wherever she was. Rose was so strong and beautiful, nothing could ever harm
her. Luckily, the nights were a bit shorter now, so Lilly wouldn't have to wait
for much longer. But when she looked towards the horizon to see if the first gleams
of light were showing, she saw a dark group of clouds. She knew what that
meant, but she didn't want to think about it. Lilly closed her eyes and wished
that the clouds would disappear and that she could finally see the sun again,
but when she opened them, nothing had changed. Suddenly it was quite windy and the clouds came towards her even faster as
if they wanted to prove that whatever Lilly would hope for would not come true.
For the first time in days Lilly looked around herself and saw the others that
looked as scared as her. Dark clouds
were never a good sign. It only took a little while and the clouds were right above their heads
and the wind was just getting stronger and stronger. Rain suddenly started
raining down on them and even though Rose had told her that it was as important
as the sunshine, this kind of rain wasn't good. It was falling from the sky
hard and fast as if the clouds had opened their doors all at once. Lilly tried
to protect herself, but she didn't know how. Then she heard screams and in the next second she knew why: the rain had
turned into hail and was hitting their heads. There was no escape, Lilly felt
it beating onto her body and she hoped so badly that nothing would happen to
her. That night none of her hopes came true, though. One last hit of hail broke
her neck. When the sun came finally back that morning, Lilly was not there to
see it rise. © 2014 FAuthor's Note
