The Birth Of School From Education And Success

The Birth Of School From Education And Success

A Poem by Ryan
"

Making fun of how pointless I think standardized testing and public schooling is.

"

We sit upon hard bricks just close enough to the desk where it becomes

impossible to zone out or even take notes.

Aching rear and stiff back, breaking from the agonizing constant bow of our spines.

Drilled into our minds

inspirational quotes plastered on

dull posters that hang crooked from the wall.

Engulfed in musty dusty grey air.

Just visible is the red glow of the butt of everyone's blunt

filled up to our necks,

in over our heads with literally blurry lies from the system.

The loud whisper of the warden afront the room staring us down shoving

lifelong knowledge down our throats to the point of which we’d

Rather be smelling that Mary Jane than actually looking at her.

Wishing on the clock with nothing on our minds but time.

When does it end

when is it over?

One more year? Too long.

They don't know we’ve been done since the day of the

First dawn.

Gone. Were out skipping class cause theres nothing else to play.

Yet I'd rather be nowhere else,

or at least thats what those signs say.

Better than lifeless bodies spread across the still

deserted plains behind these bars.

Why go out and benefit our lives when we’re having so much fun here and it's free!

Only under one stipulation, you must pay a small fee and that being your life.

But don't bother with a receipt cause its non-refundable, once you’re in you’re never getting it back.

Just anticipating the recorded voice telling us to take out the homework.

A monotone scratchy noise,

This broken record that never stops and wont relent.

Next year there's a new class, and the teacher is the students.

Now we’re teaching them only it’s what not to do which is their very job.

They say there’s new technology

why do homework why even use books? There’s a machine that

burns them in exchange for good looks.

Thats all we need nowadays, all we’re worried about.

Why study when they worry of what we look like day in day out.

Though people may say you look better, well they lied

cause according to the mirror no one looks good when you

deface your face with eight pounds of makeup to hide.

We cry out for it to stop but we’re too weak to raise our hand.

There’s no need to waste energy in doing such extreme of tasks

if we can't even do that.  How are we supposed to question,

gain comprehension, or make suggestions.

People are dropping sleep and picking up psychological depression.

next they're giving us the option of being lazy

tweeting and texting in our questions #crazy.

What's the real reason we’re here?

To learn or to let them teach?

There's a big difference between actually taking in what they educate and

just having to regurgitate some short learned knowledge on a

scantron.

If we forget what they speak five minutes after the fact

we end up failing and wonder why they overreact.

As for me, I won't let some bubbles and a number 2 pencil

dictate, impact, or subtract from my life.

They can test us with tests but the finals are

never final because they won't and cannot help us with the real test

which is survival.

Survival of the fittest, to see who can succeed.

Instead of sending a stampede of unnecessary knowledge meant to mislead.

Your parents say go to college to be big and successful.

All they want is what's best for you and life not to be stressful.

“Education is the key” they reiterate.

When yet they marvel at how great and how much money Bill Gates has -

oh the irony.

Don't say its not relevant cause you

need it to proceed. All this or your money back,

not guaranteed.

Its the biggest lie there is, yet so unseen.

We keep buying into the societal means

blindly running through four short lived yet heavily

dictated years of trial and failure.

We have to decide

where to draw the line.

No longer will I sit and be told what to be taught.
