Vacancy

Vacancy

A Poem by Emmy J.M. Powell

People always have to use funny terms
like "feeling empty without [someone]"
and wanting to "fill the hole" in their heart
I understand where we're all coming from
with that cheesy s**t,
but I wish we'd get to the point,
because it's become unpoetic from overuse
I'll be frank and point-blank with you:
I love you,
I think about you when the room is quiet,
almost obsessively,
because I think my mind likes it
it's hard with you,
you know
because you smile at everyone,
and not just me
my ears ring with unrequited love
and you know that they do
damn you for knowing and damn you for pretending as if you didn't
i'm not feeling too poetic tonight,
so just let me say this:
if there actually is a hole in my heart or whatever,
it's only because i've made room for you
so please
tell me you don't want the vacancy

If that's not poetic , so what is?

It's the most beautiful expression of love I read for a long time
