Edema

Edema

A Poem by Emmy J.M. Powell

I may not have
that high self confidence
that my sarcasm imitates

But I do have
a strong sense of pride

I do not beg,
I never say sorry,

But I looked at you,

Baggy blue eyes,
swollen chapped hands,
shiny freckled arms

And with watery eyes,
I begged you to stay

I said sorry
for not being able
to wake you up long enough
to tell you that
I was leaving for the night

I was wrong
for telling myself
that you wouldn't be
weak enough to leave me

I do not beg,
I never say sorry,
I am never wrong

But I did it,
I said it,
and I was
