A Poem by Emmy J.M. Powell

I can't wait,
until you come back home
to cook shepherd's pie
and pecan bunt cakes

to knit checkered washcloths
on your roundabout needle

to sit at your scrapbooking table,
conscientiously making birthday cards

to stand in front of me with a paring knife,
peeling grapes on the counter

to look alive again
instead of dying on a sweaty hospice bead

I can't wait,
until you come back home

Please come home
