Best Years of Your Life

Best Years of Your Life

A Poem by Emmy J.M. Powell

My adolescence is ebbing,
like the foaming edges
of an ocean
that I have never been to

My golden years
consisted of suicide attempts,
fluctuating weight,
and a dipping mattress
that never ceased being warm and tepid

My adolescence is waning,
like the beaming edges
of a harvest moon
that will never glow golden again

This is a heavy one. It carries a great deal of pain. Don't lose hope! The best is always yet to come!!

Nicely done with this poem, by the way. I loved the flow of it.
