Nutshells

Nutshells

A Poem by Emmy J.M. Powell

Moving from drugstore chapstick
to lipstick napkins

from small-dosage cough syrup
to adderall pills

from jelly sandals
to orthotics

from pediatricians
to oncologists

from strawberry milkshakes
to non-fat franchise coffee

-

This is growing up
in a nutshell

as long as the nutshell
has high arches
and sleep deprivation
and a fear of saturated fat
