Old Red School Scissors

Old Red School Scissors

A Poem by Emmy J.M. Powell

I've never cut such a straight line in my entire life
as when I was cutting your obituary
out of the jack-knife gazette

I used my old red school scissors
with the faded "Powell" on the handle
written with sharpie by excited trembling fingers
