ABSENT-MINDED BRAWN

ABSENT-MINDED BRAWN

A Poem by Emmy J.M. Powell

I CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF THE WAY YOU LATCH YOUR THUMB INTO YOUR SEAT BELT WHEN YOU CLIMB INTO MY CRUMBY PASSENGER SEAT AND I CAN'T STAND THOSE LITTLE BARELY-EXISTENT DOTS OF SWEAT ON YOUR UPPER LIP THAT I SO DESPERATELY WANT TO JUST MOP UP WITH A SLOPPY FIRST KISS AND I CAN'T HANDLE YOUR FINGERS TAPPING AGAINST THE CAR DOOR TO SOME STUPID SONG ON THE RADIO AND I'M ALWAYS WATCHING YOU SO CLOSELY THAT IT'S ALMOST AS IF I HATE EVERY ADMIRABLE EUPHEMISM AND MANNERISM AND GESTICULATION THAT YOUR BRAWN CONVEYS WHILE YOUR MIND IS ABSENT
