I'M TRYING

I'M TRYING

A Poem by Emmy J.M. Powell

I LOVED THE WAY YOU COVERED YOUR GAPING MOUTH WHEN YOU LET A LAUGH SLIP OUT AND THE WAY YOU TINKERED YOUR GIGANTIC HANDS TOGETHER AS YOU SAT IN FRONT OF THAT COLD COMPUTER SCREEN AND THE WAY YOUR FRECKLES LOOKED WHEN LIGHT GHOSTED IN FROM YOUR EASTERN WINDOW AND MY VERTEBRAE CAVED IN BUT WHENEVER I LOOKED AT MYSELF AND ALL OF THE MINISCULE THREADS THAT HELD MY COMPOSURE TOGETHER ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT WAS HOW I WANTED TO SLASH THEM TO SHREADS JUST TO SEE THAT GAP IN YOUR TEETH AGAIN
