Bile

Bile

A Poem by Emmy J.M. Powell

You are the heat,
that liquifies my jaw,
you are the saliva,
that pools at my gums,
you are the cruel dry heaves,
that bite my throat.

You are the ache,
in my tonsils,
you are the bile,
that resurrects again,
on the third day,
and you are last night's,
caesar salad,
bulging inside my cheeks.

You make my body ache,
with the exertion,
of keeping you around,
and my mouth is bitter,
with the taste of your compliments.

But you are a soft spot,
and my tongue may be bitter,
but I will always welcome you,
whether the choice is mine,
or the choice is not.
