Coffee Filters

Coffee Filters

A Poem by Emmy J.M. Powell

Our bodies
Are giant filters
Filtering blood
Filtering air
Filtering the contents
Of our stomachs
But sometimes
It forgets to filter
The butterflies
And the feelings
And I find myself
Loving the flutter
Of the wings
And I find myself
Loving your smile
And I find myself
Willing to kill
Just to kiss your mouth
For the first time
