Mistaken

Mistaken

A Poem by Emmy J.M. Powell

You disgust me now,
like a coffee from,
the gas station,
at 2 a.m. that scalds,
my tongue when,
it dips in for a taste.

The glint in your eyes,
is no longer there;
your nose is crooked,
and the bend is,
no longer endearing.

Your smile makes me,
spite instead of swoon;
your jokes,
aren’t funny anymore,
now that you’ve told them,
to Her for a second time.

I look back to when,
you still cared about us,
and realized that,
you never did.

You are an accidental pin prick;
you are a hip bone,
smacking into a table corner;
you are an ache in my joints.
But most of all,
you are my mistake.
