I'm Okay

I'm Okay

A Poem by Emmy J.M. Powell

I’m always so busy
Wondering if I am
Saying the right thing
That I become narrow
With the things
That come out
Of my mouth
That I don’t mean
But frankly feel appropriate
To bubble out
And everyone seems
To love the unoriginal
Banal norm that I say
Too often and too willingly
And lately I’ve decided
To reasonably say what I mean
And the person I loved
Everpresently left me
And I’m left saying the unoriginal
Banal norm of a lie
“I’m okay”
