Alone On A Dark Street

Alone On A Dark Street

A Poem by south4thesummer

The night walks with me-
a creature with a body,
with a breathing.

The siren-throated evening
swallows me:
a little white pill
on a great dark tongue.

Silver and resounding
with such great force-
with the fullest voice
and the furthest reaches.

I can hear it all,
every last thing.
I have my ear
prest up to it,
to its heaving heart.
