Composed at night at Chandipore, a seaside resort in Orissa, an eastern Indian state. We (three close friends) had rented a small bungalow on the edge of a cliff with the receding sea below us. It was pitch dark and one could only hear the waves dashing a

Here

Where the breath of the world

Ceases to be

 

Here

Where one step, opens the doors

To eternity

 

Here

Where to love

Is but loneliness

 

Set a table for two

And wait for me.
