Threads of Silk

Threads of Silk

A Poem by Emjai
"

A different point of view, in the nature of a common spider.

"

Threads of silk

Cords stronger than steel

Mid-air she weaves with practiced skill

Unaware of my curious gaze

She entwined for her next meal

Standing out darker in a room whiter than milk

The widow sets out her obscure trap_ ready to reel

Waiting with patience_ set to kill

The would-be hums in the air_ moving in a daze

Ignorant of the dangers that it would soon have to deal

Caught_ Cocooned_ Doomed

Not one to taunt nor play

She wolf’s quickly but never ravenous

Then the weaver returns to her craft

Paying no regard to the remains of her prey

The cycle of survival teaches nothing of abstinence

For those who float on life at the aft
