Too Cold for Early Autumn

Too Cold for Early Autumn

A Poem by Samm James
"

Composed as I stopped by my Grandfather's grave one evening

"

I stopped by for a moment alone.

I felt like I should write
something
to mark those few seconds
that only I knew about.

Something to say how sorry I was,
how I felt at that moment:
empty.

But would you hear me?
I’ve always hated unanswered questions
more than those left
unasked.

And what do you say
to a cold gravestone anyway?
