Cimmerian

Cimmerian

A Poem by Sorry Sits Here

It follows me.
Everywhere I go I see this darkness.
I see its face.
I feel its gloom.
Lurking -
it grows and grows
as the day
The day grows old and old.
I can't escape this obscurity,
this predator,
this aphotic beast.
It plays tricks on my mind,
what lies - within this demon.
Why does it resemble me in so many ways?
We are not alike,
yet we are one;
conjoined by fate.
Doomed to forever play this infernal game of cat and mouse.
A mirror into my own darkness.
This somber creature foreshadows my own demise...

I looked at this poem because of the title. I had never heard of a word like "Cimmerian" before, and I was intrigued. I'm glad I was intrigued! This poem, to me, sounds like the eternal battle of good and evil inside a person. We have so many choices to make that can go either way. We want to be to the good one, but it is too easy to fall into evil. The last line is mysterious, letting us choose our own way or path. Very intriguing poem. I enjoyed(:

That aftertaste of mystery is exactly what i was going for. It only further enforces the theme of darkness and shadows . Thank you for the review Alexandria ;)

I like very much that you leave the beast unnamed, I think it leaves it with more power that way. I saw it as a form of guilt or depression perhaps, but not knowing as the reader leaves the lovely aftertaste of a mild mystery in my mouth. I am fond of the structure and the expression, it flows like a poetic paranoid thought process.
