It burns

It burns

A Poem by Soren

Flaming guilt a swallowed coal
A holocaustic inferno out of control
We breath our past with every breath
Forgiveness drunken from the waters of Lethe

Author's Note

Soren
Lethe was the river that flowed into the river Styx and drinking its water were said to give forgetfulness to the dead of their past life.

Forget our past? burn it like a holocaust? that's asking a lot of us...even if the river can try to make us forget
our past is glued to us whether it is a favorable one or not...we own it...many emotions come to mind, and complexity....there is a lot I would like to forget personally, yet it keeps haunting me at times....
Nice write Soren...
Warmly, B

Thanks so much Betty for the read and comment it means a great deal
I don't know how much of our past we can forget even if we want to.
That coal when swallowed will forever burn in our throats...This says so much...great piece...I think you meant "breathe" in the third line.
