Soft or hard

Soft or hard

A Poem by Soren

Two lumps of ore dug from earth
Emissions from mother's sore, equal from birth

One squeezed gently, smelting hit or miss
Warmed not heated immensely, cooled with a kiss
A blade made sent me, too soft, I did dismiss
The second I vowed intently, not to treat like this

Hardened in the fires of misery, quenched in the waters of want
Tempered in life's pillory, forged blade sharp and gaunt
Honed on grit's subtlety, polished fine edge of a savant
Future leaders of society from adversity's font

this work was heavy. much like a heap of iron. the long lines and multi-syllable words give it a weightiness. and this tone matches the story. i read it as two brothers being forged by parents who do not reall know what they are doing. the result are two blades. one dull, the other sharper but imperfect. but even a dull blade can cut. even an imperfect sword can kill. and thus weapons are made. and we step into the world, designed for just one thing.
