Call of the earth

Call of the earth

A Poem by Soren

I didn't notice pieces of me falling off
Hair growing thinner by the day
At such loss I did scoff
Then bits of skin started falling away

Eyes, appendix, gall bladder corroded
As a child my tonsils I lost
Slowly bits of honor eroded
With time, children and wife became the cost

Mind's autumn leaves fall
Dementia rotting my brain to nothing
In deafness I hear the dirt call
Now winter's cold is coming

I wouldn't classify this one as your basic upper. The losses of life do seem to multiply with the years, but we'd probably save money on anti-depressants by smoking some good dope.

And it would be less of a risk to your health. Thanks so much John for the read
This poem shocked and delighted me at the same time. The delight is on account of the powerful images, the concept itself (we lose parts of us little by little throughout life), and the brevity (which is "the soul of wit"); the shock is on account of the truth of it all. Really memorable write!

Thank you so much for the review and kind words of support
Such a raw, honest strong piece of writing that could be taken in three ways:

that's how it goes
it doesn't have to be like that unless you insist
make do, live young because now you can get away with it!

Thanks Emmajoy for the review and interpretation it is appreciated as always
a very bleak yet truthful look at the relentless march of time and the dissolution of our physical bodies. while age is the one thing that goes up but never comes down, only the soul can live eternally. and if that is taken care of we can face our demise with courage.
powerful writing, i find myself looking forward to reading your works ever day.

We all of afraid of getting old. We love our family, our beauty, health and more. But those things wipe out after time. Being a child, you can play and have a lot of time. But for adults, its complete opposite. But, we have to go through it. Although I consider myself young, I understand the pain. Keep the good work, Soren!

Isn't this what everyone is afraid of, getting old? Diseases and losses. Loss of family, beauty, health and everything else. Do you know there was an algorithm; when you are young you have no time and money but health and enthusiasm, but when you are old you have time and money but no health and enthusiasm... this contradiction of life is terrifying. "you can have everything but not all at once."

Feeling all the diseases and illnesses in the poem at once gave me goosebumps. You have definitely reflected it very well!! I admire your writings!
