Sleep child

Sleep child

A Poem by Soren

A child wrapped in peeled skin
oozing marrow from broken bones
from the scalds of man's sin
covered in a blanket no one owns

A carcass hung in a butcher shop
Listen to the flies scream
Aging meat this season's crop
Sleep child, sleep a dream

Your poem is deeply haunting and beautifully written. The imagery is so vivid and unsettling, especially with lines like ‘oozing marrow from broken bones’ and ‘flies scream.’ It really captures the harshness of suffering and the loss of innocence. I can feel the weight of emotions behind it. Amazing work Soren—so raw and evocative!

Thank you so much Martiya I appreciate the read and most kind words of support.
Poignant and evoking sentiments . This is a reality in many places. Seeing children and hungry shelterless people . Yet so much money and food wastage by others. It saddens to note the increasing gap between the haves and have nots. You poetically rouse and make us think about a very common and hapless situation around us. Especially painful when its the winter time and festivity and holiday planning everywhere to find other few hungry and cold left to remain alone . Thankyou for your beautful writing dear @Soren

Oh, what a heartbreaking and very emotionally difficult poem to read, dear Soren. So many precious children, innocent and pure are condemned to live as you have so poetically described. They are hungry while in the butcher's shop the meat is rotting and I have to ask "Who cares"? The butcher would prefer it to rot and discard it than give it to the mother of such a little child to feel them both. The inhumanity of so called human beings. Can't understand our mentality at all. Your superbly crafted poem is a wake-up call to each of us to change our ways and consider those who have nothing compared to us and to reach out to them with a loving and helpful hand in their time of need. Gratitude for sharing, Soren!
