Jewel discarded

Jewel discarded

A Poem by Soren

I did not perceive the beauty
of nature all around
I didn’t raise my eyes to see
more than where I was bound

What I thought trash now has splendor
cold sting of the floor, at the break of dawn
A cobweb’s clinging surrender
A rusty nail who’s shine is gone

Each poem contains a heartbeat
the poet's blood it bleeds
old waste now honey excretes
in deeply planted seeds

Far underground they make a sound
Each critic's stab a discarded scab
shed on the ground becomes a jewel found
the reader to grab

Yes, there are poem that I just loved when I first wrote them and with time have come to see them in a less rosy light; and then there other poems that I wrote and went ... that was fun or I am glad I got that off my chest and then later, I go ... oh that is what I was on about. That is the jewel for me that poetry offers ... a greater understanding. Wonderful penning. Going to go read it again to make sure I truly understood.

the use of first person gives this a new energy. while all your writing has thought-provoking ideas contained in a whimsical beat, the personal touch adds an extra flavour. esoteric as all of your other works, the jewel, the thing we want but is hard to get, is discarded in the title and found in the last stanza. always a man of mystery, never disappoints. the fluidity of this verse really makes it, your style is unmatched. enjoyed it.

This poem captures a profound transformation of perception, illustrating how overlooked, "trash" elements of life can reveal beauty and meaning over time. Like the way Monkey Mart might reveal hidden gems in everyday moments, the poet celebrates growth and change from the discarded to the treasured. Through struggle, each piece of art becomes valuable, its flaws turning into jewels.

I think when we are young life is too hectic for us to see the beauty which surrounds us, Soren. As we advance in age, we become more aware and we see things we missed out on before. Things that intrigue us like a beautifully spun cobweb bedecked with morning dew and it appeals not just to our minds, but to our spirit within and we notice its beauty and look in amazement at the work the spider has crafted. A very finely crafted insightful write, Soren. Without exception all of your poems are resplendent jewels so finely honed and polished! Wonderful write! Thank you for sharing...

Excellent. So many things at first glance, especially a disinterested first glance, appear to have little value ... but in time are shown to be treasures. ~Jim
