Temple of broken rock

Temple of broken rock

A Poem by Soren

Poems a bricolage, mythologies' seeds

patchwork of past sewn into flowering understanding

Stones of belief, covered with emotion's weeds

roof of language above a distant landing

Foundation of eons, corner posts of past

wisdom's light through windows

Memories nails, iron cast

dug from the rocks of Lindos

In the arts, bricolage (French for "DIY" or "do-it-yourself projects"; French pronunciation: [bʁikɔlaʒ]) is the construction or creation of a work from a diverse range of things that happen to be available, or a work constructed using mixed media.

Lindos a Greek archaeological site close to Rhodes
According to myth, Lindos was founded by the Dorians by the king Tlepolmus of Rhodes, who arrived in about the 10th century BC. It was one of six Dorian cities in the area known as the Dorian Hexapolis. The eastern location of Rhodes made it a natural meeting place between the Greeks and the Phoenicians, and by the 8th century Lindos was a major trading center. In the 6th century it was ruled by Cleobulus, one of the Seven Sages of Greece. The importance of Lindos declined after the foundation of the city of Rhodes in the late 5th century BC.

Thank you for sharing the history behind the poem, Soren. I would never have made my way through the poem without it! A very captivating write which held my attention from the first word to the last, insightful also because I would never have thought that creating a poem was of DIY job, but of course, it makes sense now. Your superb choice of words and metaphor make this poem a Masterpiece, dear poet. Your DIY project is a huge success and I am grateful to you for sharing it with me today. You are a wonderful teacher, my friend... Thank you!

Most welcome always, dear Soren...
another riveting read. your notes really helped, but even without the the weight of mythology could be felt in your words. a myth is not merely a fantastic story, it is history, philosophy, and universal truth disguised as magic. it is a sharp insight into what writers (ought to) do: speak the truth but make it entertaining as f**k.

I never thought of poems as "do it yourself" projects, but yes, I suppose they are.
I look at most of what I have written and think....If I used AI I would not have had to put them together myself...they would come already assembled.
