Ember

Ember

A Poem by Soren

A spark in the dark it beckons with its call
Among the ash a tiny flash, a memory to recall
Once a blaze now in haze in oblivion soon to fall
In despair it calls for air smoke raises in a scrawl

In its spell, it did tell its story to me
It did show that long ago it was a mighty tree
Once a seed among the weed it grew by degree
Until it fell under age's spell victim of apathy

Its soul a glowing coal, dying words rose in smoke
Embers of wood hard a small shard of broken oak
A sound profound from roots of ground words spoke
From a tree burned something learned be content with life's yoke

Thank you so much for the read Jeyanthi and the words of encouragement they are most appreciated
A dying ember now a spark in the dark grabs the poet's attention. Once part of a blazing fire, very soon it will fall into ashes and be now more, but first it narrates its story to the poet. Once a tiny little seed it grew up to be a strong, tall oak tree. Over the years it feel under the spell of old age and sadly became a victim of indifference. The dying embers were once a shard of broken oak now spoke profound words and from the beautiful tree we can learn to be content with whatever life throws at us. Excellent use of metaphor throughout the poem. You paint such a wondrously vivid scene which draws the reader in as I see you in my mind sitting by the failing fire and learning a life lesson from the last dying moments of the tree. Eloquent quilling, dear Soren. Sad for the tree and all of humanity who are carrying life's yokes too. Superb penning, thank you for sharing, my friend...
