Night's soliloquy

Night's soliloquy

A Poem by Soren

Oh sweet night with your promise of slumber
bringing dreams of past child wonder
Let life's blazing sun nestle in his cloud covered bed
pulling over head, blankets of umber

Should dew drop tears reflect your fears
be quieted by night's mist covered lullaby
Sleep deep, from dream's Elysian fields reap
conscience's cornucopia supply

From the grave of night should dawn be reborn on shores of a distant morn
will new days cutting rays sting less than yesterday's thorn?
Will chains past be off cast, freed from memories forlorn
or like Oedipus, gouge out eyes under distant skies, despising the day born?

Thank you so much for your review and comment it is valued
Just fantastic, the line "Sleep deep, from dream's Elysian fields reap, conscience's cornucopia supply" just rolls of the tongue nicely. Great poem for this night I think. Soren I hope you have a great day.

Of course Soren I think your are a good poet
This poem superbly details what life is like for a child at nighttime going to bed as the sun settles down to sleep in the sky. The dreams which come with sleep can cause fears with tears but also be soothed by the sweet silent song of night. Night's dreams are quickly forgotten as dawn appears and fears are put to sleep until evening time again. The chains of night which hold a child prisoner are cast off at morning's first light. What a great joy to be free, to run, to laugh, to play again and hopefully the new day will not give rise to a need to despise it. A lovely poetic address to the night very creatively captured in both word and imagery. I enjoyed reading very much and could identify some familiar lines in relation to sleep as a child. Lovely work! Thank you for sharing, Soren...
