Hurricane

Hurricane

A Poem by Soren

Eye on the coast it screams its war cry
pushing waves of warriors onto beaches
climbing the sand, by its hand many die
soon the high ground it breaches

Spears of lightning, Thor's maul splits a wall
storm clouds then arrows of debris black out the sun
under waterfalls of rain the Valkyrie's call
drums of thunder echo, berserker war begun

Black as midnight it swings its sword of wind
cutting down trees bringing buildings to their knees
decapitating roofs, city bottle-necked, pinned
A cavalry of tornadoes advance with assassins' expertise

Throat of the city cut, it bleeds
It closes its eyes, the lights go out
with teeth of wind the storm feeds
flossing with sparking power lines along its route

You have captured Hurricane Milton in this superb allegorical write, dear Soran. Saw it on the news this evening and couldn't believe the devastation it caused. The visual detail in your sublime poem depicts exactly what was shown on tv. I pray that you and your dear family are all well and that you have not suffered damage at Milton's 'hand'. Breathtaking write, my dear friend. Thank you so very much for sharing...

Did I just read a chapter from a novel?? Love it! I love the way how you always have references from history or myths. That's great! You definitely write amazing sir/ma'm. I really appreciate your work, everyone should read these.

You are too kind but I thank you kindly for your supportive words they are cherrished.
Your words are both fact and story-telling: giving varying insight of the hurricane's immediate devastation and the leaving of long memories by way of loss of /change of home, immediate future plus - the aftermath of mental and physical despair. Via UK t.v. we saw the horrific goings on, heard shouts and screams, saw weather as the enemy it can be - a vicious and unconquerable enemy at that. Can only admire the services given and the courage of every single person involved. Tears for those lost..

Some truly crazy hurricanes we are having this season. The number of times I heard people say "I've never seen it like this before" with Helene and then just a few days later we have another one rolling through as well.
I liked the mixing of mythological figures, the storm, and battle imagery. Really works, especially for this particular storm that was tornados, flooding, and then the hurricane all rolled into one.

myth mixed with reality....the bottom line is strength.
