Rights of respect

Rights of respect

A Poem by Soren

Fragile be the bonds of liberty
when, for our sake, we them do break
Seeking to be free we disagree
and in mistake, other's rights forsake

Others we expect to be politically correct
Our own speech you see is free
Now no respect, only ourselves we protect
A holy decree, all humanity falls behind me

Crowd rats in a cage and watch them turn to rage
Normally to their family sweet, now their young they eat
At this stage, nothing their hunger can assuage
Every rat they meet they attempt to delete

Standing room only in a bus, there are just too many of us
No place for a seat, we stand on other's feet
Without space to discuss, at neighbors we fuss then cuss
Till their faces we greet with our mittens of meat

WOW!!!! What a WONDERFUL poem, dear Soren!!! Breathtaking in every respect!!! I adore how you so expertly pen man's disrespect for man, our selfishness is portrayed uniquely through both excellent word choice and visual detail.
It is so true and so sad that we think the world revolves around 'us' to the point where 'we' are always right in what we say and refuse to see the other side of the coin when it is presented to us.
I adore the analogy between human beings and rats. It is exquisite. Like the once sweet rats, we too, have a hunger to eliminate every human being we meet without a shred of consideration for the homeless, the deprived, the hurt, the hungry, and there is a v-e-r-y strong intolerance for anyone who is 'different'. What a sad species we are, definitely not "Homo Sapiens", what a misnomer, we don't have a shred of wisdom.
On the bus now-a-days, nobody gets up to give their seat to an elderly person. It is exactly as you say, we will trample on each other to get what we want, regardless of what happens in the process.
Sadly, neighbourliness has fallen by the wayside too, dear Soren and as you so rightly say, a fist in a neighbour's face seems to be the majorities answer.
As I read, I could feel your frustration with the people in our sad world today. Nobody seems to care anymore. Neighbourliness has gone out the window. Kindness in thought, word and deed seems to be a thing of the past. Dear Lord, where are we heading to?
A magnificent write, dear Soren! I have so enjoyed reading and a very heartfelt THANK YOU! for writing and for sharing... Kudos, my dear friend...
