Life is but a dream

Life is but a dream

A Poem by Soren

Life is but a dream a vision of ghosts
mind's dust and smoke from inner fires
with fuel of fears and hopes it coasts
navigating mist's hosts of desires

Ember of dawn glows in the hearth of day
Newly kindled flames of past lives
Black phantoms melt into a shadow's ballet
Without time's chains freedom survives

Memory drips through holes in a dream
drops falling in a directionless bend
to alite again in a new stream
an ocean of new dreams to extend

Quite dreamy in movement and feel. There is also a sense of the interplay between light and dark. A journey in verse, no less.

The title drew me in to read the poem. It reminded me of a song my children used to sing when they were little: "Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream!"
And so it is and you have captured all of the reasons why it is but a dream in this superbly penned and expressed poem, dear Soren.
It is so true that we navigate the mists of life with a host of desires, fears and hopes.
In the light of day all these melt away and become shadows we can't see though they may return again when night-time comes, to haunt once more.
Memory slips with the passing of time and we are left directionless, but in a new lifetime we are able to extend our directions once more in an ocean of new dreams.
Superb visual detail, I love the rhyming scheme too, the flow is effortless and smooth (hopefully, like our transition from this lifetime to the next!) and I love the various figures of speech also.
A very thought provoking sublime write, dear Soren. Thank you so much for sharing, dear friend...
