Once a mighty tree

Once a mighty tree

A Poem by Soren

Green turned to brown
nature's home in shards
Time's rot has taken the crown
memories for birds, the bards

A pile of decomposing wood splinters lay
where once towered mighty trees
Memories rot where rain and sun now play
discarded past carried by ants and breeze

Assending smoke marks the loss
Dank debris a funeral pyre
Beside it forked branches form a cross
washed in sputtering fire

Its shadows growing small to tall
A cemetery of ash and dust
sprouts new life that too will fall
Broken dreams inside chard crust

Thank you so much for the read and most kind words they are deeply valued
Ah the memories of trees. There is one near here that is rumoured to be 9000 years old. And I can believe it. It is called the Fortingale Yew if you are interested.
This poem certainly does its subject justice.

I've seen those Redwoods in California. Amazing things.
"Broken dreams inside chard crust" is a very powerful last line.
I love this poem. Partly because I love trees. But there is such beauty even when those trees have died. Your description showcases that beauty to me. It also points to the tragedy of constant change, that the old must burn to the ground so the new can exist.
I enjoyed this read! Thank you

Thank you Arundass for the read and most kind comment it is most appreciated
that might tree with all its strength, felled, burnt to a crisp....much like the idea of love in our society. I like the references to the crucifixion here...
Once a might tree could refer to Jesus, it could refer to our society...or just to each one of us as we grow older...and often times learn too late from our mistakes.

The demise of a once, beautiful, tall tree is very finely crafted and beautifully penned in this poem.
It's beautiful crown is missing where once the little birds built their nests and sang their praises of Mother Nature. The tree is now decomposing from the rain and rot and is being burned for safety reasons. The smoke from the fire reaches for the sky as if mourning the loss of the once, proud and beautiful tree.
The silhouettes of the tree vary from small to tall and from the tree's cremation will sprout new life that in the passing of time, will also fall.
A poignant write from the poet's poetic pen outlining the funeral of a once, healthy tree cut down for safety reasons and it is so sad to think that the new tree which will grow in its place may face the same demise one day.
A beautiful narration wrapped in sadness, for me.
Thank you for sharing, Soren. Great write! I love your poetry...
