Not what it seems

Not what it seems

A Poem by Soren

Nothing in my pocket but I am rich

a hollow gut socket and nothing to it enrich

Heart treasuries, hunger's remedies

coat cavity and belly full of delicious memories

Salted open sores, buttered smiles

chocolate amores, bittersweet trials

mixed and sautéed in a rusted pan

without a recipe, nothing from a can

Tarnished shadows polished in sun's gold

Behind a mental mirror magic does unfold

Beggar now king, w***e virgin queen

Sacred, what was once obscene

the prodigal returns home to a joyous acceptance .. washed in a way only our Lord can do ... that's where your poem takes me my friend ... in L1&2 i had to get use to the rich and enrich ... seemed to easy at first .. the syntax of "....nothing to it enrich" stumbled me; but reading it over several times i think i understand what it is saying to me .. i think your poem is a powerful, humble acknowledgement and acceptance of the whole of one's lifetime ... it is a rocky road for sure ... ups and downs and all arounds ;)

Thank you so much for the read and interpretation they are deeply valued and appreciated.
Lovely use of oxymoron, metaphor, alliteration and other figures of speech in this amazing poem of gratitude. The poet's treasures are not of the material variety, but the memories stored in the vault of his heart with a combination lock which only he has the number to unlock it. I love how the poet makes a potpourri of sweet and sour ingredients (memories) and mixes them carefully in his rusted pan of life without a recipe. I adore the visual detail in this eloquently penned poem especially how the evening shadows once tarnished are now polished in the gold of sunset. You have an amazing way with words, they are like toys in your hands, you play with them until you reach absolute perfection. You are a wondrous wordsmith, dear Soran. Gratitude for sharing this wondrous write. I love it and I so enjoyed reading...
