Familiarity of the nonexistent

Familiarity of the nonexistent

A Poem by Soren

Words discovered in a dusty brain
now misty echoes of rusty pain
In dark shadows lurks despair
crimson eyes through you stare

A familiar place you've never been
sleeping visions awake within
Broken hours broken sleep
sprouting from time one does not keep

Distant words spoken never said
sounds of dreams and of the dead
You'll hear as clear as you'll ever find
unspoken thoughts from a frozen mind

Broken memories strands unwind
cutting visions that bleed and blind
Beds of shadows in fears workshop built
from metal of ignorance and wood of guilt

Images that dim then glow
visions of places I do not know
Faces and places I hold so dear
now only past traces that become unclear

Hhhhhmmm! I have read this amazing poem five times and still reach the same conclusion at the end of reading it for the fifth time as I did after reading it the first time. It seems as though it is an older person telling of what they are going through because they have Alzheimer's/Dementia? Superbly penned write, with so many different aspects sketched through excellent word choice to convey to the reader how difficult it is for a person when their mind enters a world that loved one's cannot enter with them. So many different facets in the poem paint a picture of that awful
disease for me, so similar to what I saw both my parents go through in their final days, bless all. A very poignant, heartrending but wondrous metaphoric write. Thank you for sharing, dear poet...
