Smoke of dreams

Smoke of dreams

A Poem by Soren

How it swirls and billows in the air

unpredictable its course and flow

It floats in joy and despair

without knowing where it will go

It raises falling in the breeze it drifts

wood burning smell near

Evaporated solid coal shifts

dissolving thoughts once dear

Burning dreams release their smoke

from emotions dying ember

Glowing coals orange stain I poke

burn red with heat from what I remember

Very beautiful visuals created here, dear Soren. Such smoke is as fatal for the eyes as it is for dreams and hopes. Your words were suggestive of corrosion, acidity, pain and burn. The saddest part is that the smoke is so diffuse, as you indicated beautifully in the first verse. It just rises unplanned and flows with no shape or restriction, wrecking massive havoc.
I so relate! Wonderfully written!

I believe you are speaking of fires and how they shift and change with the air currents.." it floats in joy and despair"... dependent upon how fierce or calm...moments of remembering those fires from yesteryear, when you would stoke them in a fireplace....and the scent of burning wood, then turning to red hot coals, is so inspiring .....precious memories
