Darkness old friend

my family my home

so familiar when I roam

guiding light to the end

Can't bear to see the sun

blemishes reveal

dark ugliness conceal

cobwebs of illusions spun

Shadows where life can be

false hopes sweet dreams smiles

child like candy hope that beguiles

delusions of beauty

justice peace happily ever after

joy relief laughter

shadowy matrix fairytale tranquility

A hearty thanks for the thought. I too am inspired by music and the old song "Like a bridge over troubled water" came to mind. No this was more a general thought of how we all accept darkness in preference to the light of knowing what we don't want to hear, partly out of fear but more out of indolence. Loved this poem for its refreshingly honest appraisal of our oft affinity for darkness. Darkness can indeed be such a home, such a friend and guide. Something that we don't like to admit to ourselves. Very relatable for me, Soren. I dislike being dragged into the sunlight, have my harsh truths exposed and confronted. Let me be lulled into my illusions till I slip away into my eternal rest. All the lines in this poem are my favorites! The new rhyming scheme works wonders!
